Dr. Rob Stull

Director of Instrumental Activities

Dr. Rob Stull is Director of Instrumental Activities at Clarke University in Dubuque, Iowa. He directs the Clarke University Wind Ensemble, Jazz Ensemble, and String Orchestra. He also teaches courses on woodwinds, saxophone, clarinet, and world music. Rob holds a Doctoral of Musical Arts from the College-Conservatory of Music in Cincinnati, studying under Dr. Kevin Michael Holzman and Dr. Terence Milligan. While in studies there, Rob was selected as music director and conductor of the University of Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra (UCSO), allowing non-music majors the opportunity to share their musical talents within an ensemble setting.

He studied his Masters of Music in Wind Conducting under Dr. John Boyd and Dr. Douglas Keiser at Indiana State University.

Prior to attending Indiana State University, he gained his Bachelor of Music degree in Education from Seton Hill University working with Kathleen Campbell in conducting and saxophone performance. Rob was part of the adjunct faculty at Seton Hill University, where he taught Fundamentals of Music Theory, Saxophone, Woodwind Ensembles, and Instrumental Conducting.

He worked for nine years as a resident artist at Pittsburgh Musical Theater, working at the Richard Rauh Conservatory as a music director and instrumentalist. During his time as a resident artist, Rob worked with Class Voice, Teen and Pre-teen Musical Theater Workshop, and the Broadway Juniors. He was the saxophonist for the world premiere of “Without Ruth” at the Carnegie Off the Wall Theater (Pittsburgh). He also spent over 15 years, serving as music director for several theaters in the Pittsburgh area.

Currently, Rob is the director and conductor of the Julien Winds, an ensemble of educators and professional musicians in Dubuque. This ensemble is part of the Artist in Residence program at Clarke University. He also is director and conductor of the Dubuque Symphony Youth Orchestra.

His focus of study is multi-media work for ensembles and the exploration of interesting and quality works for the 21st century. He is dedicated to the production and sustainment of quality wind and orchestral works.
